What I've Seen: Spring Moves

New projects, collabs, and cherry blossoms.

Happy April, everyone! I hope you’re all enjoying the (slighty) warmer weather and cherry blossoms. I know I am.

Got to Sakura Fest in Akron to see the cherry blossoms!

And Happy Easter to those who celebrate! As soon as I’m done writing this newsletter, I’m going to get dressed so I can get to church early.

It’s officially spring–the start of new beginnings, rebirth–but I’ve actually been taking it slow this month. I’ve cut down on the amount of poetry shows I go to and am trying to focus more on creative work that resonates with me personally. I’ve got a cool collaboration on the horizon, and I’m finally moving forward with my first creative project. Here are the deets.

🌸 Collaboration: The Deep Roots Experience

Last month, Calil asked me, Joshua, and Indira to participate in The Nature of Healing, an group art exhibition with 30 local artists, curated by Deep Roots Experience. I contributed a poem that’ll be published in a book coming out next month.

April 4th was opening night for the exhibition at the Cleveland Botanical Gardens. I had an amazing time!

Probably my favorite piece from the exhibition

📖 New Project: Poets and Photography

I’ve been delaying launching my first creative project due to a lack of capital, but I’ve officially decided that capital won’t be the thing blocking me from releasing a project that’s been on my brain for months now. I realize that I’m waiting for the right time, waiting for recognition, and I’ve officially decided to bet on me and put it out there.

Keep an eye on this space. I’ll definitely share more about the process of putting this project together. I’m excited!

📸 Through the Lens: Photography Tips and Tricks

It’s normal to be nervous before a shoot, whether it’s your first shoot or your fiftieth. Pre-shoot jitters just mean you care! If you’ve ever wondered how to deal with pre-shoot jitters, I’ve got you covered. I put together a blog post showing how I managed nerves for my first portrait shoot.

💭 Final thoughts

I’m enjoying moving a bit slower this month and thinking more about my business and projects. It’s all about creating a healthy balance. Rest is part of the work, too.

If you’re in a season of stillness, I hope you lean into it without guilt. And if you’re feeling restless, I hope you find a way to channel that energy into something that excites you!

As always, feel free to reply if anything here resonated. I’d love to hear what you’re working on, what’s inspiring you, or what you’re letting go of this season.

Until next time,
Deanna
